Ramadan 2017

When does Ramadan 2017 Begin?

We are very happy to announce that Ramadan 2017 / 1438 will start on Saturday, 27th May in all countries of the world, Insha Allah! It is possible to start Ramadan 1438 on the same day all over the world because of the visibility conditions of the Ramadan crescent.

We invite you to check the new moon visibility prediction for Ramadan 2017 / 1438. The astronomical New Moon is on Thursday May 25, 2017 at 19:44 UT. On May 25, the moon can’t be seen anywhere in the world as it will be born very late. One can verify in the Visibility curve that most of the world is in a black zone.

We now invite our visitors to look at the visibility prediction curve of next day, 26th May, Friday. As see in the visibility curve, most of the world is either in a Green zone or a Blue zone. This mean that there are very good chances of the new moon visibility in most of the world on 26th May if the visibility conditions are good. One can confirm that in the visibility curve. The countries where direct visibility is not obtained will be covered by the extension of the zone of the visibility. Hence, the whole world can start the fasting for Ramadan 2017 on the same day, 27th May 2017, Insha Allah! A rare event to observe!

Those who would like to get more details about why Ramadan 2017 can start on the same day are requested to read our introduction to the Islamic Calendar. One should also get answers to the questions about concept of the extension of the zone of the visibility by reading the introduction.

On 25th May 2017, Thursday and on 26th May, Friday, we will publish Ramadan 1438 live moon sighting reports along with photographs on this page of our website. Those reports will be sourced from moonsighting.com, icop.org and also from our astronomer friends around the globe. Thus, we invite you to visit our site towards the beginning of Ramadan in order to get updates about crescent sighting. We will also publish live crescent sighting reports on our Facebook and Twitter accounts, so please follow / like us on our social media account as well.

On the very auspicious day of Eid al-Fitr 2017, we will release country specific Islamic calendars for Hijri year 1439 and also for the Gregorian year 2018. So please keep visiting our site during the whole Ramadan month.
