COMMUNIQUE

Thanks be to God, the vast majorities of the countries in the world have celebrated Eid Al-Fitr on the date we announced, 25th June 2017.

But, once again, Saudi Arabia must be given the golden palm of stupidity and hypocrisy. Since years this country has endowed itself with an absurd calendar called Umm Al-Qura, based essentially on conjunction. Saudi Arabia asserts that this calendar is used only for civil purposes. Since some time now, the beginning of each month seems to be determined on the one hand by the birth of the new moon, and, on the other, by the setting of the moon in Makkah, even just one minute after the setting of the sun! Since these criteria are overtly insufficient, the authorities now systematically resort to subterfuge. Several witnesses in different parts of Saudi Arabia are supposed to have seen the crescent on 24th June evening!!! We attest that this is a sheer lie and impossible according to the most reliable astronomical data. It is contempt for science! It is above all false testimony denoting a greater closeness to idolatry than to Islam.

When is Eid al-Fitr 2017 (1438)?

We are very pleased to announce that most parts of the world (excluding some countries of Asia and Oceania) will be able to celebrate Eid-al-Fitr on Sunday, 25th June 2017, Insha Allah! The major parts of Oceania and the remaining countries of Asia will be able to celebrate Eid-al-Fitr 2017 on next day, 26th June 2017, Monday. Kindly see below the list of countries arranged as per the Eid celebration date.

We now invite you to take a look at the visibility curve of 24th June 2017 for Shawwal 2017 (1438). As can be seen from the visibility curve, there are very good chances of direct crescent visibility in South and Central America. As the new moon can be sighted in South and Central America as well as in Africa, Europe and most countries of Asia (as listed below) before fajr, they will be able to celebrate Eid al-Fitr 2017 on Sunday, 25th June 2017. Please note that visibility is acquired either through direct sighting or via our concept of the extension of the visibility zone (link).

We now request you to examine the visibility curve of 25th June 2017. As you can see, all countries of the world are in a direct visibility zone, green or blue. Hence, all the remaining countries, namely most countries of Oceania and the remaining countries of Asia will be able to celebrate Eid al-Fitr 2017 on Monday, 26th June 2017, either via direct visibility or via the extension of the visibility zone.

We have published below an extensive list of countries arranged as per the Eid celebration date. Kindly see the list below to get an idea about the Eid celebration date in your country. To get more details about our date calculation methodology, we request you to please read our introduction to the Islamic Calendar.

We also request you to read our Ramadan 2017 announcement to get an idea about the live reports of crescent sighting we provided during Ramadan. The prediction of the astronomers=Not Visible Even With Optical Aid. To avoid erroneous, Hilaal sighting groups was arranged right round the country. Each and every group reported negative sighting but just 15 minutes after Sunset a sighting report came from one of the sighting group which is situated east coast called Nilaveli. The same place which testified the positive sighting for the month of Ramadan. As we knew it is impossible for naked eye sighting we cross checked by questioning them and we came to know there were 14 brothers have been appointed by ACJU Nilaveli division to be present at the sighting place. While these 14 of them were present another 2 brothers have joined them for sighting whom they have no experience in Hilaal sighting. As these 2 claimed sighting while others didn't so these 2 brothers phoned straight away to the Colombo Grand Mosque without the consent of the group leader Moulavi Muaad. In this regard it took time to settle the issue as the the brothers whom were appointed for sighting explained to them as what they claimed was not the hilaal and rejected it at the place itself.  Source: Moonsighting
