We are very pleased to share with you that Dhul-Hijjah 2016 (1437) will start on Saturday, 3rd September in all countries of the world! Hence, the whole world will celebrate Eid al Adha 2016 on Monday, 12th September 2016, insha-Allah!
We invite you to take a look at the visibility curves for Dhul-Hijjah 2016 (1437).You will notice that the Dhul-Hijjah moon will be born very late on Thursday, September 1 at 09:03 UTC. Hence it will not be directly visible in any part of the world. As there will be no visibility of crescent in any part of the world on 1st September, Dhul-Hijjah cannot start on 2nd September. We now invite you to see the visibility curve of 2nd September. It is evident from the curve that crescent visibility will be achieved in most parts of the world on September 02, 2016. The countries where direct visibility is not achieved will be covered by the extension of the zone of the visibility. Hence, Dhul-Hijjah 2016 will start on Saturday, 03rd September in all countries of the world and the whole world will celebrate Eid al Adha 2016 on the same day, 12th September 2016. The event is rare, and merits special notice.
We have published below an extensive list of countries arranged as per the Eid al Adha 2016 celebration date. Those who would like to get more details about why Eid al Adha 2016 will be on the same day in the whole world are requested to read our detailed introduction to the Islamic Calendar.
Since Dhul-Hijjah will start on 3rd September in Saudi Arabia, Wuquf Arafat will be on Sunday, 11th September.
Similar to Ramadan and Eid 2016, we will publish Eid al Adha 2016 (Dhul-Hijjah 1437) live moon sighting reports on our website and social media pages. We invite you to visit our site towards the end of the Dhul-Qi'dah 2016 to get updates about crescent sighting.
We have already published Islamic calendar for the Gregorian year 2017 and Hijri calendar for 1438 for each country of the world. Please download them by clicking on this Islamic Calendar download page.

The legitimate date for Wuquf 1437 is Sunday 11th September 2016
We would like to draw the attention of our visitors towards the Umm al Qura calendar used since years by Saudi Arabia. According to this calendar, it suffices that conjunction should occur on such and such a date and that the moon set after the sun on the same day, even if only by a minute. In this case, the new month starts on the next day.
For the Umm al Qura Calendar, it is of no importance whatsoever that the crescent is really visible, or even if it is absolutely impossible for it to be observed.
It so happens that the conditions stipulated by the Umm al Qura calendar will be satisfied on 1st September 2016. In local time, the new moon is born at 12:03 hours. Sunset and moonset in Makkah are respectively at 18:37 and 18:43 hours, also in local time. Since the moon sets 6 minutes after the sunset, Dhul-Hijjah – according to this calendar – can start on 2nd September.
Now, even a brief glimpse at the visibility curve of 1st September evening shows that all of the Arabian Peninsula is in the black visibility zone. The fact is the same for all of Africa, all of Asia and for almost the totality of North, Central and South America. Astronomically, it is thus totally impossible to view the crescent on 1st September 2016 even with a very powerful optical device. We invite you again to consult the link for the visibility curve of 1st September.
We are in fact faced with the same situation as the one that occurred on Hajj last year. The beginning of Dhul-Hijjah was evidently falsely and arbitrarily fixed on 14th September 2015. Consequently, Wuquf was fixed on Tuesday 22nd September. However, 24 hours before the event, the authorities delayed Wuquf by 24 hours to 23rd September. This was indeed a fortunate inspiration.
If Wuquf had been maintained on the initial date, the authorities would have forced the pilgrims to celebrate this capital event on the 8th of Dhul-Hijjah. It is as if a Friday prayer had been arbitrarily declared on a Thursday! But what is even worse? As everyone knows: the keystone of Hajj is Wuquf! To the extent that the Messenger (PBUH) was accustomed to say: “Hajj is Arafat!”.
Consequently, the legitimate date for Wuquf during the current year 1437 is Sunday 11th September 2016.
We hope that the Saudi Arabian authorities will use the same wisdom as last year and that they will respect Heaven, and also that which is higher than Heaven: The Command of God as transmitted by His Messenger (PBUH).
As far as we are concerned, we try to confirm scrupulously to This Command. Since 1431, we have emitted forecasts based on an intelligent lecture of the visibility curves. 31 times since this date, our forecasts have been confirmed by photographs of the young crescent, taken around the world. We invite our readers to look at these visibility curves and their accompanying photos. However, because of the large number, we present them in two distinct links: one limited to a selection of just five visibility curves, with an equal number of photos and the accompanying calendars which bear testimony to the exactness of our forecasts. For readers, who would like to deepen the question, we provide a further link with the remaining part of the photo album.(Link 1 - 5 photos, Link 2 - All Photos).
As a further information, we are pleased to announce that the limit of 7 million visitors to our site has already been bypassed. Foremost of the visitors: near to one million of visitors from Saudi Arabia (Google Analytics Report).
We sincerely thank these visitors for their faithfulness and their confidence. We implore the Most High that we never fail in this combat for the triumph of Truth.
Sincerely yours,
The Makkah Calendar Team
